Morningview Baptist Church: Applying the Proposed Resolution on Orphan Care and Adoption

December 19, 2011 //  by Sam McLure

Morningview Baptist Church, in Montgomery, Alabama, is a bright light in the orphan care community!

On May 19th, 2009, Russel Moore submitted a proposed resolution on Adoption and Orphan Care to the Resolutions Committee of the 2009 Southern Baptist Convention.  This document presents a stellar recantation of the biblical motivations for orphan care and adoption; then it gracefully encourages its churches to move forward in application.

When I consider the proposed resolution’s suggested applications and Morningview’s track record, I have to smile.  They are “going where no man has gone before.”

To mention just one area of Morningview’s imitable application, consider this particular resolution:

“RESOLVED, that we commend churches and ministries that are equipping families to provide financial and other resources to those called to adopt, through grants, matching funds, or loans;”

A little over a year later, Morningview announced that it had set aside $100,000.00 for its member families pursuing adoption:  Rejoicing in Adoption!  Now that is putting your money where your mouth is.
