I’m hanging out at one of my favorite downtown Birmingham coffee shops. I took a break from my left-brain functions and worked on my new guitar skills for awhile. Perhaps that right-brain stimulation is to blame for my deep ponderings.
Adoption work is like brain surgery. If one minuscule piece of the adoption journey is fowled up, a child’s life can be irreversibly damaged. Like this picture. It’s a “green card;” or proof that someone has received a piece of mail from me. If this green card is filled out correctly, if there is a typo in the wrong place, it can derail an adoption. Also, sometimes a brain surgeon can do everything right, but the operation still fails. The same is true with adoption. Adoption is, to mix analogies, an emotional roller coaster.
For adoptive parents, the only certain thing that will come from entering an adoption scenario is that you will be able to enter someone else’s suffering. You have no certainty that you will get a child, or that you won’t loose money … the only thing is for certain is that you will enter someone else’s world of suffering. If that makes you giddy with excitement, then adoption is for you.
At The Adoption Law Firm, we aim to reduce your financial and emotional risks in a myriad of ways. Let us help guide you in the journey.
