How to Adopt Your Grandchild – 4 Basic Elements
Is your grandchild in need of a permanent home? Think you might be qualified to adopt your grandchild? Here are the 4 requirements for grandparent adoption in Alabama:
In order to adopt your grandchild,
- He or she must have resided with you for a period of one year.
- You must have a suitability investigation which includes a report covering things like database clearance for criminal records, child abuse records, and the sex offender registry.
- The court could ask for more information.
- The suitability investigation must be submitted to the court within 30 days of filing the adoption petition.
If those four requirements sound overwhelming, don’t worry, they are. The code section governing grandparent adoptions is § 26-10E-27. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us today. We would love to take the guess work out of your legacy planning.
