In order to adopt your grandchild,

1. He or she must have resided with you for a period of one year.
2. You must have a suitability investigation which includes a report covering things like database clearance for criminal records, child abuse records, and the sex offender registry.
3. The court could ask for more information.
4. The suitability investigation must be submitted to the court within 30 days of filing the adoption petition.
